I can tell that interior door handles are becoming hard to find. Does anyone know if the Pacer interior door handles can be substituted with another AMC model? Or maybe another make? I am tired of sliding across the seat to get out of my car!

6stringblues--
Thanks for the info. I can certainly try doing that. I was hoping that the door handles for a Gremlin or Hornet would fit. AMC had a habit of re-using parts in other models.

Your right about that. I'm a new AMC( Pacer) owner(wagon) which have the long skinny type of door handles but I also have a coupe which had a drivers side door handle,so that worked on the pass. side.I think the paddle type would work also.

Door handles never break. It's the latch the handle attaches to that goes. And these are impossible to find. Your only shot is to take the inner latch off and re-make the part that always breaks in plate steel instead of pot metal. OK, stainless steel or tool steel would be fine too, but you get the picture, heavy steel. I haven't had the slightest trouble out of mine since I did it. You need a way to cut thick metal, as in a torch or bandsaw or something, and a welder of your choice plus time, it isn't instantaneous, but it's a break all the way down and go for the gusto, never suffer again kind of thing. yours, Scott

i broke my drivers side remote. (the Pot metal pos). took the passengers side apart and brought it to a tech school with a machine shop. they blueprinted the remote, and made me 4 out of stainless. it may be something to think about doing. didnt cost me a dime cus the kids needed the experience.
