I am thinking about building a a Pacer for use in figure 8 racing. I don't need great power, just a way to get it down to the ground.
I am seeking a source for differential gears for a '76 Pacer with 258 engine. They had the smaller rear end with something like a 2.73 rear end ratio and are not suitable for racing applications.
I am told only V-8 Pacers had the right rear end where gears were available. I have looked at several of the major suppliers and none are available for the smaller 6 cyl rear ends.
Any other sources out there?
Any ideas for a rear end(probably a Ford 9") that would fit well under a Pacer? I am told a rear end from a Bronco or Ranchero would work but they are pretty rare. Maybe a more common rear end available?

The 6 cyl uses; 7-9/16 ,,, same as all other mid 70's amc,, they range from 2: 37 (fleet) to 3:31 these usually on 4 cyl Spirits or low torque engine combinations. From memory:2:37 2:53 3:08 3:31,,, V8s offer 2:56 (no posi) 2:87 3:15 3:54 on... as far as beefy,,, the smaller would hold the power of the 6 just not he abuse of the track,

Summit offers no gears for AMC's. Where else can I look for gears?
Thanks!

You can try JEGS or PAW,, they are both like Summitt however they would only offer V8 dana 20 for the AMC no 6 cyl as mentioned before. If you want the 3:31 try a Spirit manual trans car ...

I have looked at many places this AM and found none for the 7 9/16 AMC rear end. There are many for the AMC 20 found in V8 cars/trucks.
Did you swap the rear on your Cadipacer?
Suggestions for a rear end swap?

I used a stock V8 Pacer dana 20 carrier, with a spool 2:87 gear,, the tires will break loose before I tear break or twist the assy..

Rear end from 1970-1972 Chrysler Newport bolts right in and is same width. Rear end is Chrysler 8 3/4. I am putting one in mine.
