1975 AMC PACER COUPE
I purchased this car a few years ago as a project car to work on with my father who is an AMC freak. This January he passed away, so I will not be able to finish it. Here is a basic desciption:
ENGINE:
We were originally going to mate a 500ci Caddy engine to it, so the stock motor wasn't a priority. Therefore the straight six runs, but overheats. We replaced the plumbing and thermostat and checked the radiator with no luck, so there may be a crack somewhere in the block. Before this problem occured, the engine ran VERY strong and had about 80,000 original miles on it. The transmission is a 4 speed that we mated to it, so the driveshaft has been modified.
INTERIOR:
The interior is in pretty good condition. Almost perfect vinyl front bucket seats and rear vinyl bench (once white, but had yellowed a little from sunlight, so we dyed them grey/black) and the carpet is a new grey Pacer kit. The dash is worn, but no major issues except that the black bezel that holds the radio has been modified to accept a modern single DIN head unit. Also, the stock stero had ONE center dash mounted 4x6 speaker that was trashed. We replaced that with 2 door mounted component speakers and 2 box mounted rear 6x9's in the hatch area. Needless to say, this wasn't restoration project, but more of a "Monster Garage" experiment with an unlikely car candidate.
BODY:
Simply put, it needs work. We threw a coat of primer on it just to slow down the rust (not of lot of rust on it, but it IS 30 years old). Passenger side rear fender was rusted through, so we patched on some sheet metal for the time being until we could find a decent replacement. The tires on the rear are wide (245 I think) on 15" hole-pattern rims (not stock). The rear actually needs slightly more wheel well space for these to be practical.
GLASS:
Since Pacer's surface area are 35% glass, I thought this needed a section of its own. Front, hatch, side and rear windows are in great shape, no breaks or cracks. The '75 Pacer had the vent windows on the doors though and one of them has been broken out and replaced temporarily with plexiglass as we were planning on replacing the doors with non-vented ones.
BONUS:
There is a parts car available if you want it, though it is not located in Wichita, but up where my dad lived in Oberlin, KS. There are also many AMC parts up there as well as he was an avid AMC fan. He raced an AMC Hornet on dirt track and was a NAMDRA subscriber, often buying/selling/trading parts and services. Unfortunately I don't have his technical know-how or knowledge, but if you are interested in any of those parts I'll do my best to get information relayed to you.At any rate, the other Pacer would be free for pickup (body/interior is not usable, but mechanical parts should be). THIS PARTS CAR WOULD BE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PICK UP AND TRANSPORT AND IS NOT CONSIDERED FINANCIALLY AS PART OF THE ASKING PRICE.
ASKING PRICE: $400 (I've invested well over $1000 so far)
LOCATION: Wichita, KS
